Day 2: You Are Not Your Thoughts.
“The most vital thing in a spiritual life is to be able to watch your mind, so that the mind is not controlling you”
Today, we will begin our journey of awareness. We will pay attention to our thoughts from the perspective of a curious compassionate witness.
An exercise like this may be very new to you, so give yourself some grace if you find that you are identifying as your thoughts. This takes time and you are just starting to learn a new skill.
The tools we discussed yesterday, curiosity, compassion, and nonjudgment, are very applicable to today’s journaling exercise.
Day 2 journal prompts :
1) Write down some of your repetitive thoughts from the day, especially the negative ones. Use honesty and curiosity to follow their trail.
2) Focus on one or two prominent thoughts. Where did they come from?
3) What’s it like to view your thoughts as an observer?
4) What possibilities would be available from the curious observer’s perspective?
